What is CSET Summer School?

In November 2007, a group of the City's leading law firms joined together to launch the CSET Summer School, a unique initiative designed to identify and encourage university students from a diverse range of backgrounds to consider a career in the law. The objective of the CSET Summer School is to unlock the potential in students in higher education who might not have excelled in their A levels and/or are not studying at one of the top UK universities.

After the success of the inaugural Summer School which took place in 2008, two one-week Summer Schools took place in 2009. For 2010 there will also be two one-week Summer Schools and the dates are:

- Monday 12 July - Saturday 17 July 2010
- Monday 19 July - Saturday 24 July 2010

The Summer School is an intense one-week residential skills-training event to be held at Imperial College London. It will use the law as its context and include group and individual structured sessions while providing business and social networking opportunities. Students will meet senior representatives and graduates from leading law firms as well as visiting the firms' offices. There will be a structured programme covering the following:

- The law and its commercial context - a series of exercises that will explain the modern commercial legal world and the wider economy in which legal practice takes place.

- Academic rigour - classroom and interactive exercises to demonstrate the need for rigour in the law and the importance of academic excellence and showing students that they have this potential.

- Application and networking skills - advice on how to make effective applications and the importance of good, confident networking.

- Competition and teamwork - students will work in teams on a significant project designed to focus on their new-found knowledge and skills in the analysis, preparation and delivery of a competitive legal scenario.

There are 100 all-expenses paid places available on each event.
