CSET History
|
CSET was established in 1989 with a group of City law firms as sponsors, to help law departments in universities cope with the reduction in government funding. Since then, grants totalling more than £8 million have been made to more than 60 institutions, concentrated on the teaching of the core subjects required for a qualifying law degree, together with those subjects which have become fundamental over recent years such as european law, environmental law and human rights law. CSET acted and still acts as a focus for money contributed by City law firms and for applications for funds from law departments. In this way, the available funds can be maximised and grants made on a well-informed and independent basis. It is separate from, and additional to, the support given direct to universities by individual firms, which in total is now very significant. Further details are to be found at CSET Law Faculty Grants. A strategic review in 2006 confirmed that sponsors wished to continue to act collectively but wanted resources to be applied more directly to individual students, leading to the idea of the CSET Summer School. Further details are to be found at CSET Summer School. |
